Walk 1 Okehampton Castle (4.1 miles)
Difficulty:
This delightful circular walk to Okehampton Castle follows mainly public footpaths which after heavy rain can get muddy.
The following sparse directions are to be used with map and do not replace the detailed GPX or KML files.
The Walk
A Enter Simmons Park and follow the East Okement River and the Tarka Trail.
B At the T junction follow a lane on right then pass under an impressive Victorian viaduct.
C Almost immediately, after walking under the dual carriage way turn right into a public footpath and follow the path to East Hill. parallel to the dual carriage way.
D At the end of the path turn right into a lane .
E After crossing a railway bridge turn left into a footpath , then left into a lane and right again into a footpath which eventually takes you to the Castle.

Walk 2 Okehampton Station & castle (3.1 miles)
Difficulty:
An ideal walk from Okehampton Station for anyone taking the newly opened Dartmoor Line from Exeter or Crediton.
B At T junction follow lane on right.
Do not pass under viaduct but take a public footpath on your right and follow the Devonshire Heartland Way along the railwayline to the
Old Station Tea Room - check for opening times.
The climb is steady.
Walk 3 Okehampton to Belstone (6.7 miles)
Difficulty:
This splendid & quite strenuous pub walk takes you along the mysterious Irishman's Wall to the top of Belstone Tor, offering breathtaking views of Dartmoor .
The Irishman's Wall is a kilometre long wall erected in the 18th Century by various Irishmen to claim land based on an ancient law. It was demolished by angry local villagers almost as soon as it was built.
Belstone was much loved by the poet Ted Hughes - his memorial stones lies 4 miles south of the village along the Taw.
