This is a must do pub walk if you are in the area.
Former landlord Charles Ossington weighed more than 20 stone and served pints from his stool behind the bar. A customer joked that he looked like “an elephant sitting on a nest” — a remark that inspired the pub’s official name change to The Elephant’s Nest Inn.

Walks start in Mary Tavy and passes the famous Elephant's Nest
pub.

Walk 1 (5.4 miles)
Difficulty:
This delightful & varied 5 mile hike follows the Dartmoor Way to Peter Tavy passing the famous Elephant's Nest pub.
- It turns East into a bridle way and later a footpath crossing a moor towards Boulters Tor.
- You return via Horndon not far from the Elephant's Nest.
At the pub (PL19 9NQ) , for those who do not mind wetlands & steep ladders across hedges, there is an alternative way via Kingsett Farm - see Yellow line on map NOT included in the gpx file.
