Walk 1 Combe Martin to Great Hangman (5.3 miles)

Difficulty:

Combe Martin

A popular but quite strenuous coastal and inland 5 mile hike with spectacular sea cliff views of the north Devon coast.

It starts from Combe Martin's Car Park and follows public footpaths and quiet lanes, all with interesting names, Water Lane, Corner lane, Girt Lane and Shute Lane.

The initial stretch is a steady climb to Great Hangman which marks the highest point of the South West Coast path - the origin of the name 'Hangman'.is uncertain.

From here follow the coastal path with extensive views of of Wales and Lundy Island.

Pack O'Cards

George Ley won a great deal of money after gambling in 1690 and built this strange structure with 4 floors (four suits) and 13 rooms (number of cards in each suit).
