Aylesbeare Common walks through a nature reserve with splendid views
1 hour walks

It's quite remarkable that during WWII this area had an 'airstrip' lit up at night as a decoy for Exeter Airport.

Aylesbeare Common

Aylesbeare Common

Walk 1 (1.9 miles)

A short and easy dog walk to several ponds full of insects - a photographer's dream!

The route uses well defined tracks and offers stunning views of Mutter's Moor and the sea.

busy crossingthis walk crosses a busy road

Park just off the Exeter to Sidmouth Road (A3052) . Turn into lane to Stonyford then park on left.

Walk 2 (3.1 miles)

This is a very popular walk through two commons,Harpford & Ayledbeare.

During the winter ,wellies are recommended as the public footpath through the woods follows a stream and can be quite muddy.

Please note the busy A3052 has to be crossed twice.

as with walk 1

Walk 3 (5.2 miles)

This walk starts near the Aylesbeare Inn (unfortunately pub is closed) and gently climbs up to the Common where the views are quite stunning.
