Various instructive information boards retell the history of this delightful village. It even boasted a castle, pond and mill.

Walk 1 a village trail (1.4 miles)
Difficulty:
A short walk to enjoy Sampford Peverell's medieval and Victorian heritage.
Part of the walk follows the Grand Western Canal.
Past the church , take Boobery Lane then at the top of the 'S' turn left onto a public footpath and climb steadily to an area where lime used to be extracted - look out for embankments.
You are rewarded with delightful views of East Devon hillforts and perhaps some straying sheep.
Walk 2 Grand Western Canal (2.1 miles)
Difficulty:
This easy and very pleasing walk, similar to walk 2, follows a longer stretch of the Grand Western Canal using public footpaths.
The walk involves a steady climb with glorious views of East Devon.
Expect some muddy patches after heavy rain.
Walk 3 Revised to Uplowman (4.3 miles)

Due to on going covid restrictions the walk includes a diversion and follows some permissive paths up a hill.
This pleasant rural walk follows part of the peaceful Grand Western Canal and explores the remote hills and fields around Sampford Peverell. You pass the mill and drained pond near Sampford Manor.
Some stretches may become muddy after heavy rain or contain long grass.
It takes you into Uplowman which boast a popular pub, the Redwoods Inn.
Though stiles and kissingates are well maintained, the paths in some of the fields may be unclear - no problems with a gps.
There is one steep climb.
