Tiverton Georgian architecture,wildlife rich canal and rolling hills
 

This once prosperous town was named after two fords - one across the Exe, the other across the Lowman: Two-Ford-Town.

Much of the town centre was destroyed by a fire and rebuilt in a Georgean style by wealthy wool merchants The locals refer to the town as Tivvy .

Three delightful walks.

Walk 1

Walk 1 Easy Canal Walk (2.8 miles) Time:1h 10 mins

A From the small car park turn left ,cross road to roundabout and continue along cycle path,slightly on left..

B Follow a disused railway track towards Halberton.
C Cross bridge and return along the Great Western Canal past memorial to a crashed plane.
D At Tiverton Basin and large car park turn right into a foot path & Hermes Avenue

Enjoy a rural walk following part of the Tarka Trail explores the hidden and more secluded woodlands and streams of Devon.

Walk 2

Walk 2 Gogwell (4.5 miles) Time:1h 50 mins

 A This delightful but somewhat strenuous country walk starts in Tiverton.
B It takes you through the centre,past the Museum
C Continue along Collipriest Road with the river Exe on your right.
  DJust before Lower Collipriest Farm turn left up a hardened track which changes into a public footpath climbing steadily to Gogwell.E Cross a lane (Exeter Hill) into a track & at farm take the left fork (Gogwell Lane).
F At the end of the track cross over onto a public footpath.
At the next lane turn left. At the next junction turn right, then right again into Tidcombe Lane
G Return along the Great Western Canal.

Walk 3

Walk 3 Town trail (1.4 miles) Time:40 mins

 The third is a short town trail,which takes you through the old part of Tiverton,past the museum (well worth a visit) , the castle and market.

Walk 4

Walk 4 Tiverton to Bickleigh circular (8 miles) Time:3h 20 mins

Follow the river Exe to Bickleigh, enjoy some refreshments and take the bus back!
This is a 'must do' walk. There is a lot to capture the interest of the walker, even on the way back!

Walk 6 Tiverton Tree Trail (2 miles) Time:50 mins

 This trail launched in 2017 by Y4 pupils from Heathcoat Primary, was designed to help children & adults (?) identify trees.
