Best Otter Nurseries Circular Walk

Otter Nurseries is a family run garden cente with a cafe located near the Otter at Ottery St Mary. It was founded in 1964 by Malcolm and Marilyn White, who began growing vegetables and plants to sell in East Devon markets.

River Otter

It is difficult to imagine that the site previously was run by 'Burnt House Farm.'

This is a delightful short circular walk into rural Devon and along the river Otter despite the hazards mentioned below.

Some stretches along the country lanes are subject to traffic!


	Some stretches along the river can be narrow. We strongly advise sensible walking footware.

The Walk

A Facing Otter Nurseries you turn left, following a country lane which joins an at times busy road and bus route into Ottery St Mary.

B After joining the main road into Ottery, continue for 160m ( 3 minutes) and take the a track , signed as a public footpath, on your right.

You skirt Cathay Bridge Farm estate, a park like landscape, on your left. Continue all the way to the river ignoring paths on right.

This stretch can be quite muddy after heavy rain.

C At the river to right and follow a meandering footpath keeping the river on your left.

Path Along Otter

Caution: Some stretches can be quite narrow.

D Take gate on right of bridge in the corner of the field. and continue along the lane, back to Otter Nurseries,
