Westonzoyland Walk

the Last Battle in England
Sedgemoor

In 1685 The rebels led by Mothmouth were aiming to surprise the Royalists by attacking at night.

Unfortunately, their guide lost his way and couldn't find the crossing point . This alarmed one of the sentries and a shot was fired marking the beginning of the battle of Sedgemoor,

Walk 1  Sedgemoor Battlefield (4 miles)

Difficulty:

This fairly easy walk starts from the church where the Rebels were kept as prisoners.

It follows a long distance hiking route out of the village, through a disused airfield and returns via a public footpath along the Kings's Sedgemoor Drain.

After a mile turn left onto a track, then take fist track on your left and soon onto another track on your right.

This leads towards the battle memorial.
