Tiverton Canal Bridge

A short and easy walk along the Grand Western Canal, built around 1812 ; you will find swans and cygnets, mallards, coots, moorhens and possibly a kingfisher; in early summer, the banks are ablaze with yellow irises.

Difficulty:

It descends gently into Halberton (Alberts farm) and as you join High Street the village pub,the Barge, is on your left, a three minute diversion.

The route crosses a Roman road linking Willand to Tiverton & takes you past the old village pond which apparently never freezes to the church with its 14th-century nave and its famous rood-screen, pulpit and Norman font.
