Dawlish Countryside Park, opened in September 2017, offers the walker a unique opportunity to enjoy Devon's native wildlife , flowers and grasses.

There are two trails, Red and Yellow, running through a wild countryside of hilly fields and hedges with various surprises to entice the visitor.

Chances are you will be tempted to revisit the park and see it transform and mature throughout the seasons.

Difficulty:

This is a delightful short walk following the well signed red trail; it includes one climb and a descent.

The Walk

A From the car park, go through a gate then turn left and climb steadily to Eastdon Woods.

B The path runs through 2 hedges. After second hedge turn left - this bit is somewhat steep.

At the top turn right and follow path along wood until you reach a beautifully carved wooden owl.

C From here you can enjoy spectacular views of the coast line ,Haldon , the obelisk (looking like a white chimney sticking out of the woods), and Mamhead House, a fawny coloured Georgian mansion.

Stand behind the owl and peep through its head - on a clear day you should be able to see rocks jutting into the sea.

Continue along this path and descend to the bottom of the field.

D Take a left turn and follow the path along the edge of the park back to the car park.

This pleasant walk uses footpaths, cycle paths and country lanes .

You descend steadily towards the coast; at the end of Shutteron lane turn right for Dawlish Warren village (possibly for some refreshments?) or left to continue the walk.

Follow a new cycle path for half a mile then turn left into Orchard Lane.

After a steady climb you join another lane on your right .

Continue left , then soon you notice a gate with a small owl taking you back into the countryside park.

Go through gate then follow path skirting the woods on left towards the 'owl'.
